Summary of the meeting:

The regulation of the immune response in chronic infectious and noninfectious inflammatory diseases is a central element in the pathogenesis and evolution of diseases of great importance in Brazil and other countries. The researchers invited to this course will discuss new possibilities in different areas, including:
  • mechanisms of negative regulation of effector function that are present in infectious diseases such as leprosy and leishmaniasis and also in malignant tumors and autoimmune diseases;
  • changes in lipid metabolism and the role of lipid mediators in chronic infectious diseases;
  • multiparametric approaches for the analysis of cell populations and molecules in blood and lesions that open new possibilities in the prevention and control of relevant health problems;
  • multiparametric analysis of leukocytes and other cells in the course of chronic inflammatory responses.
All the subjects will be analyzed in the context of the most recent observations.

Goals:
- Allow graduate students and research professionals to have an up-to-date view of regulation of chronic inflammation in infectious diseases such as leprosy and leishmaniasis and also in neoplasms and autoimmune diseases.
- Favor a discussion of recent advances in the evaluation of immune and inflammatory response parameters in blood and tissues. Methods such as multiparametric leukocyte analysis and metabolomics applied to chronic infection will be discussed in the context of relevant
diseases in Brazil.
- Allow the postgraduate students, research professionals and teams of FIOCRUZ cytometry platforms to discuss their projects and plans in multiparametric flow cytometry and new methods for dimensional reduction in data analysis.
- Open new opportunities in international collaboration for interested researchers and
students.
